We wish to express our gratitude to all who contributed to this special issue of the International Journal of Psychoanalytic Self Psychology. This issue is based on the proceedings of the 33rd annual international conference on “The Psychology of the Self: Self Psychology Across the World in Theory and Practice,” held in Antalya, Turkey, in October, 2010 (the first conference to be held outside of North America). We thank the coordinators of the conference, Lucyann Carlton and Estelle Shane; the paper co-chairs, Richard Geist and Tessa Phillips; the International Planning Committee; and the Turkish Planning Committee for creating a rich tapestry of papers and presentations from around the world. The setting for the conference was in a place of beauty and warmth, arranged by our Turkish hosts. We are most grateful to them.
We were fortunate to have had many excellent articles submitted to this issue—more than we could publish. We appreciate the enthusiastic response to our call for papers, the collaborative spirit that developed with the authors whose papers were chosen for the volume, and the graciousness of those whose papers were not. William Coburn and Roger Frie provided invaluable guidance to us as we worked together to construct this volume. We thank them. Finally, we wish to recognize and commend Allen and Renee Siegel, James Fisch, and all of those who have so devotedly initiated and participated in cross-cultural conversations and teaching in self psychology in Turkey, Israel, and elsewhere.
Thank you all.
