In her response, the author expresses appreciation to Eldad Iddan and Yavuz Erten for their careful and sensitive commentaries on her case presentation. The author finds Iddan's self psychological framework illuminating, particularly the concept of “being with” and the idea that songs are selfobjects. However, she views aggression in the therapeutic process quite differently. The author endorses Erten's contribution on the power of sound to communicate that which has not been put into words and is preverbal. The author also agrees with his belief that the process of mentalization is taking place during the course of her work with Ayda, but she does not agree that songs, as developmental phenomena, should eventually phase out of the therapy. Rather, the author concludes that songs are essential communications and are free associations and, as such, should remain part of the therapy process.
