This article describes a process of mutual emotional dissociation in an analytic relationship, a process characterized by the patient's dampened affect and the therapist's sleepiness. Through an enactment and its confrontation, the analyst and patient were able to expand affectivity and a sense of enlivenment in their work. The author uses ideas from complexity, attachment, and relational theory to understand the creation and resolution of the enactment.
