We appreciate the opportunity to have a “genuine conversation” with Corpt and Riker about our concept of an integrative sensibility. They extend our thinking in two different directions. Corpt focuses in on a consideration of “character” as a way of exploring the relationship between the personal, the theoretical, and the communal. Riker expands outward to broad ethical concerns about making room for the other. These two different extensions of our ideas have provided fertile ground for an enactment of the integrative sensibility we are talking about. Corpt's thoughts on character move us to elaborate on our idea that even as we colonize theory, theory also colonizes and inspires us. Riker's invitation to say more about “genuine introspection” prompts us to further explore the indissoluble unity of dialogue with ourselves and with the other.
