The poem, Rocking Stars, written by Joanne Jackson, crystallizes her understanding of two psychotic patients she treated, both of whom developed delusions that they were being lovingly contacted by rock and roll stars appearing on television. I was Joanne’s clinical consultant in the many years of these patients’ psychotherapy. Our shared view of the cases was that the patients were subject to profound experiences of personal annihilation, and in their imagined communications with famous musicians found pathways for the attempted resurrections of their souls. —George E. Atwood, Ph.D.
