This case presentation addresses questions regarding the nature of the therapeutic relationship and the role of the therapist in the treatment of a young adult. During the course of the therapy the author assumes that the patient has skipped adolescence and recognizes certain aspects similar to work with pre-adolescents. This leads her to conceptualize treatment as a “second chance”, a belated developmental opportunity to live through adolescence within the frame of the secure therapeutic setting.
