Anna Ornstein M.D. died on July 2nd at the age of 98. A Holocaust survivor who endured Auschwitz and later married fellow survivor Paul Ornstein M.D., Anna emigrated to the United States and went on to join Heinz Kohut’s close circle of friends and colleagues during the formative years of Self Psychology. During her long career, she influenced generations of clinicians and scholars, not only through her writings and teaching but also through her integrity, intelligence and generosity—Anna was loved by many of us and inspired everyone who encountered her. She was a foundational pillar of the Self Psychology community and will be profoundly missed. We intend to gather remembrances and tributes to Anna in a later issue to honor her extraordinary life and enduring contributions.
