The psycho-analysis I have presented here was in some respects, which I have mentioned in the Introduction, not an entirely typical one. Yet Richard's material and my interpretations throw light on the basic principles of my technique of analysing children, during both latency and pre-adolescence. Therefore I believe that this book, as a continuation of my Psycho-Analysis of Children, should prove helpful to the student of analysis, and in particular of child analysis; in fact, this is my main aim in publishing this work.
I have repeatedly pointed out in my notes certain steps in development, some of which proved evanescent. I nevertheless regard them as important because it is part of the analyst's work to study such steps carefully, even when they are not sufficiently established.
