Dear Mr. Freud, This removal of your title is the immediate result of your bestowal upon me of the rank of doctor—something which I would sooner receive at your hand than at anyone else's, but to which I am not by right entitled. For I never considered myself capable of gaining an academic degree, very erroneously as I now see, and so I must spend the rest of my life naked and exposed, just a simple man in my own name. This is a deprivation under which I suffer particularly when I remember the present state of our universities.
