My dear Mr. Zweig,
I read your little comedy1 just before I took to my bed for a week (with a temperature). I am far from saying that it had any influence on my illness. But perhaps my illness influenced my judgement of the comedy. For it was not to my taste, above all I did not find it at all funny, and on account of the differences between North and South German I had difficulties in finding my way through the dialogue. I hope you will not take my objections amiss; at least you will know that when I next praise passionately something you have sent me, it will be meant seriously.
I hope that my good wishes for your health and that of your wife will arrive at a more opportune moment than yours did with me.
Ever yours
Freud
