Dear Mr. Freud,
I have just seen that I was right in having a vague feeling that your birthday was approaching, though it is true I thought it was at the end of the month. But now I see it is on the sixth (the same day as my brother's) and I am happy to think that I wrote of my own accord without knowing this. When anyone has got as far as you have, there are not many wishes left to wish him and one can give him only a symbolic gift. But I can at least wish you a good and sunny spring and a year free from pain. And this I do, also at the behest of my wife who does not like writing letters, and I add my greetings to all your family.
Yours
Arnold Zweig
