22. v. 34
Dear Meister Arnold,
It seemed to me that dissuading someone is not the proper behaviour for a friend. So I asked Frau Lou whether her cooperation would be available. I enclose her answer,1 which please return.
Yours
Freud
On 20. 5. 1934, Lou Andreas-Salomś wrote to Freud: ‘I wish to lose no time in adding one further point to this short letter of greeting and thanks, since you put the question to me at the end of your letter: it concerns the Nietzsche project. It is absolutely out of the question that I should participate in this in any way. I cannot consider such a thing and the mere thought of it fills me with dismay. Please tell this to your correspondent in the strongest and most final terms—moreover, how right you are to dissuade him altogether from his Nietzsche plan!’
