You will see, dear Father Freud, that our thoughts have more or less crossed. Indeed, had my son Adam not forgotten to take this letter to post, it would have gone off yesterday, four hours before yours arrived. By the same post my friend Stutschewsky sent me a copy of the Wiener Illustrierte with a picture of you with Zofie's puppies at your feet. That was a happy coincidence for which I am grateful. We must always tell ourselves one thing: people of your calibre were always treated in the past more harshly by their contemporaries than has been your lot in the Periclean days of Francis Joseph and Kaiser Wilhelm. If only you keep well and remain as sardonically cheerful as ever.
Yours
Zweig
