I now wish to give another case which illustrates fairly obvious material obtained by this natural method of history-taking. The boy hated his brother.
It is of the nature of this case that there was no question of any difficulty in the initial stages. He came straight in while mother went around with the brother in the car trying to park it.
I had been told by the mother in a letter about Albert's satisfactory development except for certain difficulties which included nightmares; also I was told that he had a preoccupation with ideas of good and bad. ‘He is almost too untroublesome.’
This was obviously a case in which the squiggle technique could be employed, and so we immediately settled down to playing this game.

He told me about his family.
