Vienna IX, Berggasse 19
Dear Frau Andreas
I agree to your proposal (with one modification), if I can do a deal on it, i.e., if I get a picture of you in return for my likeness.
The photo of me taken by my son seven years ago, and which today makes a very anachronistic impression, is to my knowledge no longer available. A photographer in Zurich had it on sale, reproduced and enlarged, but our relationship with Zurich is now of such a nature that I cannot ask for his name. On the other hand, perhaps during this very month I shall have in my possession engravings based on a photograph made in 1909. If you agree to this proposal and if you send me your present address, this work of art shall make its way to you.
Since Munich20 things have not been going well. There is a crisis in the air. May it soon explode and the air be cleared!
My youngest son,21 who is now studying in Munich and who is so enthusiastic about R[ainer] M[aria] R[ilke], reported to me that he was very disappointed not to have met you.
