Dear Professor,
Your letter of a few months back was such a joy to me that I would have liked to answer it right away, but I realized that that would not do. I am now answering much of it in thought and at the same time I go on reading your paper, and in addition I have been working at this problem myself in all sorts of ways—and this will finally all add up to another long letter to you. But for today you shall just have this belated expression of thanks and also I want to enquire whether all is well with you and your family. For when I was in Berlin before coming here, Dr. Abraham expressed anxiety at the fact that he had had no news of you for longer than usual.
