[Göttingen, 12 October 1918]
Dear Professor,
With what pleasure I have just read On the History of the Psycho-Analytic Movement110 (although it is very remiss of you not to have written any greeting for me on the offprint!). How much there is which I should like to discuss with you in person. I feel I have a closer relationship to these things than I used to do, and precisely the conflicts and dissensions in the Association have had the good effect of making each individual think for himself and be clear about where he himself stands, and so become more conscious of his gratitude to you.
May you have a summer-like holiday full of sun, fresh air and quiet after all your toil and labour!
With warmest greetings,
Yours,
Lou Andreas
‘On the History of the Psycho-Analytic Movement’: Part One deals with the early period, Part Two with developments after 1902, Part Three with the period up to the date of writing and concludes with an account of the divergent movements of Adler and Jung; Lou A.-S.'s remarks relate to the last of these.
