Vienna IX, Berggasse 19
Dear Frau Andreas
It is very nice that you are able to accept. We all without exception look forward to your visit. Life here is stable again, so that we can leave the date to you. My daughter will let her projected journey to Hamburg depend on your arrangements. Of course we too are sorry that you cannot come before January, and do not like to think how uncertain are the ways of fate in these times. Till then we must keep in touch by letter.
I should like to mention one point in connection with your journey, and this I do without fear of being misunderstood. If your freedom of movement has been impaired by the rupture of all communication with your homeland, I hope you will allow me to send you from Hamburg the money for your journey. My son-in-law141 looks after my credit in marks there, and through my earnings in sound foreign currency (American, English, Swiss) I have grown relatively wealthy. But I want to have some pleasure out of this new wealth myself.
Yours ever,
Freud
P.S. For the book on the psychotic artist I thank you or Dr. Rilke very much.
Max Halberstadt.
