Dear Professor,
To receive a letter from you yourself has made me very happy— although you scold me. Not that I mind; I only wish that I were there in person to hear you do it! It is extraordinarily kind and good of you to think of me like this. I should have replied straightaway, had I not wanted to consider the position here a bit before I did so.
I had already written to Dr. Eitingon that I should be passing through Berlin sometime after Christmas. On consideration I still do not think I could get away any earlier, because the obsessional patient who came to me in Göttingen in the summer and whom I cannot in any circumstances leave in the lurch could not accompany me before then; she has relatives in Berlin and could stay with them from Christmas on. And so do not be annoyed with me; I'm sure if you are, I should feel it all the way here and would then begin to shiver, and not from the East Prussian winter! I am curious about the project which you mention as being realizable in six months' time. If I can play any part in it, I shall be
