Works by authors other than Freud are usually cited in full at the foot of each article. Some short titles and abbreviations have been used, however, and these are listed below.
Works by Freud are referred to throughout by their English title in the Standard Edition. Page-references are to both English and German texts (Standard Edition and Gesammelte Werke wherever possible). Also given in each case is the date of first publication and–when this is different–the date of composition. The letters attached to the publication dates refer to the corresponding entries in the complete bibliography of Freud's works in Volume XXIV of the Standard Edition. Listed here are all works by Freud mentioned or cited in this book. This list follows the Standard Edition bibliography, to which acknowledgement is therefore due.
