Baden Baden, April 1923
Dear Professor,
Many thanks for your kind words regarding The Book of the It. I am prepared for it to be received with indignation. I will be helped in this not by my self-esteem, but by the inertia which does not allow me to linger over pleasant or unpleasant impressions too long. But I am sensitive to praise or criticism.
I beg you to return Herr von Roeder's manuscript on Aristotle to me because I no longer hope that you will accept it for publication in Imago. You honour me too much when you use the expression ‘my disciple’. I have never had disciples, am rather convinced that my talent is essentially one for treating patients. I also consider my writing apart from The Seeker of Souls as not very important.
With best wishes for Easter
Ever your loyal disciple Groddeck
