Dear Professor,
Many thanks for your kind letter. The two essays were deliberately kept indistinct. Otherwise I would have started with Amor in the Melancholia print. I consider the print an illustration of the consequences which ensue when the erotic principle of life is denied. To write more explicitly about the cancer question than I have done does not seem advisable to me yet. I sent you the things because you have so often proved your interest to me in my activities and because I wanted to send you a sign of life. I did not count on publication, but if Imago wants to print them, it can have them.
Ever your grateful disciple Groddeck
