The International Review was founded as a companion journal to the International Journal of Psycho-Analysis, and although the two publications share the same editorial group, the Review has acquired special qualities of its own. It takes its place, after five years of publication, alongside the Journal as a major psychoanalytical periodical.
This issue of the Review is the last to appear under my editorship, my alloted decade as Editor of the two journals having come to an end. My work has throughout been made much easier than it might have been by the splendid support and help which I have received from the Editor (North America), Bob Wallerstein, from Masud Khan (Associate Editor) and from all the other members of the Editorial Group.
The appointment of T. T. S. Hayley as Editor of both the Journal and the Review is a source of pleasure. Tom Hayley is not only a superb administrator, but also a scholar and clinician. He is a training analyst in the British Society and has held high office in the Society and Institute. A social anthropologist before becoming a psychoanalyst, Tom Hayley brings to his editorial post special interest and skill in applied psychoanalysis, substantial erudition and the personal qualities desirable (but not always present) in an editor.
