Four recently discovered letters by Freud written to a Portuguese—Abel de Castro—between 1924 and 1929, are presented. The publication of these letters seems justified because they are the first by Freud to have appeared in Portugal. The biography, and the psychological traits of Freud's correspondent are reconstructed, permitting the four letters to be appreciated in an adequate perspective.
