This article deals with the Hamburg Congress (1985), with its emotional and historical background and certain reactions of some German analysts (although not limited to the Germans alone) concerning Freud and Freud's attitude (more or less obscurely expressed and therefore liable to be variously interpreted) with regard to the integration of German psychoanalysis within the institutions established by the Third Reich. The author, in her capacity as Chairman of the Programme Committee of this Congress, presents her personal considerations for which she assumes sole responsibility.
