In this essay, which was originally a talk given to child analysts and other professionals engaged in the care of children at a Winnicott Symposium in Zurich in 1985, I have described what has been done and is being done to prepare for publication the unpublished papers of Donald Winnicott together with his papers that have hitherto appeared only in journals and anthologies. I have tried to link the content of this material to his books published in his lifetime, and to indicate broadly how his writing corresponds to the development of some of his ideas at various stages of his life.
