Transformation fantasies were studied in the clinical material of a latency child. Underlying these fantasies were found severe disturbances in his body image, expressed in his drawings. The gradual integration of the body image related to changes in transference. The way in which massive projections on to the analyst of archaic images of monsters were transformed into transferences of a more neurotic nature was described. An important step in the integration of the psychic representation of the bodily ego related to the experience of intense aggressiveness during transference. The compulsion to draw only male figures in relation to his disturbed sexual identity was analysed. Fears and desires in transformation fantasies were seen as a feared but also desired massive introjection of an archaic image, containing merged parts of the self and of partial objects.
