The Committee on Institutes of The American Psychoanalytic Association has as one of its major functions conducting periodic site visits to each of the approved psychoanalytic institutes. A hypothetical site visit to an institute is described in some considerable detail.
Four identifiable groups participate in the site visit: The Committee on Institutes, the Site Visit Subcommittee, the local institute's ad hoc committee for the site visit, and the local institute faculty. The internal dynamics of each group and the interaction between the groups are discussed.
