Dear Dr Hayley,
Thank you for sending me a copy of Dr Zavitzianos's letter – the letter criticizes me for ignoring 'the above facts'.
I was asked to write a history of the Canadian Society brief enough to be published in the IPA Newsletter. Obviously I had to 'ignore' a great many facts – among these was the Montreal Psychoanalytic Club. My reason was that the Club, while it brought in many interesting speakers from abroad, did not provide the opportunity for analytic training. This opportunity only arose when Drs Scott and G. Aufreita and J. Aufreita came to Montreal at Dr Cameron's invitation.
I also chose to 'ignore' the following facts: that I was the first Canadian-trained analyst to present papers at IPA congresses (Amsterdam and Copenhagen) and have these papers published in the IJPA, to belong to the Programme Committee of several IPA Congresses and to be elected a Vice-President of the IPA.
Sincerely yours
