My response to Dr. Bozzuto's commentary already addresses the relevant issues raised by Ms. Cohen who similarly confuses politics with treatment conducted from an interpretive position. After all, if, for example, we think Democrats offer better mental health coverage for patients in their policies, we don't tell our Republican patients they should vote Democratic or criticize Republican candidates in our treatment sessions. We hold an interpretive position. This ensures that we avoid losing our way in the work by getting pulled into a political discussion rather than treatment. What we advocate or how we vote outside the consulting room is another matter. However, it is not treatment.
