The papers that comprise this section of the Journal were presented as an American Psychiatric Association Presidential Symposium, Today's Dynamic Psychotherapy: Not Your Grandparents' Psychoanalysis, at the 2008 American Psychiatric Association meeting in Washington, DC. The Chair of that session and the editor of this section is Joseph P. Merlino. To more accurately signal in publication the medical psychiatric content of these essays, we have changed “Dynamic Psychotherapy” in the title to “Dynamic Psychiatry.” The Frontline contribution by Katherine A. Stratigos that serves, here, to introduce the papers of the Symposium is modified from her discussion of the presentations at the Symposium
