Folter als Trauma*: Das wüste Land der Seele, wenn die Sprache verstummt

The simple and rather frightening truth is that under circumstances of legal and social permissiveness

Vor vielen Jahren schon wies Maurice Merlau-Ponty (in Humanismus und Terror) auf die topische Nähe von Medizin und Folter hin: beide lassen sich im innersten Kern des empfindsamen menschlichen Körpers nieder und gehen mit ihm um: Die eine will ihn retten, die andere will ihn zerstören.

Man mag vielleicht davor zurückschrecken, so gegensätzliche Begriffe wie Medizin und Folter zusammenzudenken. So ist es aber möglich, auf diesen innersten Kern hinzuweisen und seine zentrale Bedeutung zum Ausdruck zu bringen: dort hausen seit jeher virtuelle und potenzielle Urängste wie die tiefe Furch
