Offering an example of treatment technique – a kind of »reconnaissance of the Oedipal event« –, this paper illustrates how to profitably work with Judith Le Soldat's theory. The »robbery/murder« committed in one's imagination is seen here as a regular transference to the analyst that needs to be analysed. The repetition of the act leads the analysand – as shown by the concrete example – to a powerful fear of a revenger in transference, which explains his new defences against anxiety. However, the virulence of castration anxiety is not only felt by the analysand; the act of castration can, in countertransference, also become a critical point for the analyst, which leads to a tendency on both sides to distancing themselves. In order to make this large »memory gap« emotionally accessible for working through, the analyst circles it with the analysand over the course of several years of analysis, continually closing in on it. Escape is prevented, allowing analysis of the offence. The unfulfilled Oedipal wishes are actually the motor in the analysis. This case study underlines the significance of the act of castration, usually repressed in the psyche, for psychoanalytic theory and practice, and opens up a new perspective on problems arising in the concluding period of an analysis.
