How do we apply Judith Le Soldat's theory of Oedipal conflicts in clinical practice? This is a question we are often asked in lectures and workshops. Le Soldat herself placed little emphasis on treatment issues in her publications. Therefore, it is all the more welcome that some authors have recently published case studies demonstrating how they apply Le Soldat's concepts. However, the technique explicitly taught in these case studies is in stark contrast to our own clinical approach. The aim of our article is to highlight the differences in our understanding of technique and to open them up for discussion. We proceed as follows: In the first part, we reconstruct, on the basis of her supervisory practice, how Le Soldat herself actually worked. In the second part, we show how we work with Le Soldat's concepts. Finally, in the third part, we show how Le Soldat's successors work. We conclude that the technique of her successors is basically the same as Le Soldat's, and we explain in detail why we are critical of it.
