The following cluster of five widely ranging items represents one analyst's brief reflections of and on his clinical work. As vignettes, they claim not so much originality as distinct interest and memorability. The aim in reporting them is to pose or pursue questions, rather than to propose answers or offer conclusions. Some may stimulate fresh ideas or creative extensions of the lines of thinking these clinical experiences served to open or reopen. Others may evoke substantive responses by recalling relevant moments in readers' own practices. None is suitable to be presented as a scholarly, completely formed paper, which should demonstrate the welcome utility of this section's format. If the reactions these “short form” contributions elicit are jotted down and submitted for publication in subsequent issues of this journal, this section's function as an ongoing forum will be well served.
As is standard procedure for psychoanalytic publications, every effort has been made to present data in such a way as to preserve patient confidentiality without altering the material on which the clinical point essentially depends.
