On October 14th, 1963, Dr. Isakower presented his preliminary formulations on the analyzing instrument at a general faculty meeting of the New York Psychoanalytic Institute. The presentation was essentially the same as that delivered to the Curriculum Committee six years previously, so we will not repeat it here. The presentation was, however, followed by a discussion amongst members of the faculty, excerpts of which are reproduced below, both for their historical value, and for the further thoughts of Dr. Isakower which they stimulated.
The excerpts are based on the minutes taken by Dr. Arnold Pfeffer who was present at the meeting and to whom we are indebted. Also present at the meeting were the following faculty members: Samuel Atkin, Robert Bak, Mrs. Berta Bornstein, Arnold Eisendorfer, Kurt Eissler, Ruth Eissler, Elisabeth Goldner, Dora Hartmann, Milton Jucovy, Sidney Kahr, David Kairys, Edward Kronold (Chairman), Theodore Lipin, Henry Lowenfeld, Margaret Mahler, Burness Moore, William Needles, Andrew Peto, Annie Reich, Samuel Ritvo, Victor Rosen, Marcus Schatner, Herman Shilonsky, Isidor Silbermann, Walter Stewart, Martin Wangh, Annemarie Weil, and Nicholas Young.
