Since Dr. Cohen at the time of writing had just graduated (May 19, 1992), and since so many of her questions concerned psychoanalytic education, we thought it would be particularly appropriate to publish her letter in this issue of the Journal.
We trust that the issues of the Journal of Clinical Psychoanalysis which have appeared since Dr. Cohen's letter concerning Volume 1, Number 1, have fully answered Dr. Cohen's doubts and questions. The present issue in particular should go a long way toward dispelling Dr. Cohen's fears that clinical psychoanalysis holds the “purity” of its doctrine above the welfare of its patients.
Although Dr. Cohen may differ with the technique employed by Dr. Rodriguez-Boulan in the case published in the volume “Drugs and Psychoanalysis” (Volume 1, Number 1, pp. 129-133) she may be assured that the highest priority in that as in all cases treated at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute is the health of the patient.
That being said, we thank Dr. Cohen for her positive response to our new Journal, a response that we are pleased to report has been widely echoed in letters received by ourselves and our various contributors.
