Dr. Rittenberg asked for Dr. Lupi's comments in response to the two discussions and enquired additionally whether Dr. Lupi had felt the patient in his early twenties seemed adolescent. Dr. Lupi responded that he was most struck with the patient's masochism and gave examples of the patient's self-destructive behavior.
Dr. Wyman This analysis had the character of an adolescent analysis. It should be viewed not as incomplete, but rather the adolescent segment of an analysis which may be taken up again in an “adult” segment.
Dr. Bachrach agreed with the concept of an adolescent phase segment of an analysis which may continue when a patient is older. He described a young adult patient of his who had terminated his analysis when he entered school.
