Since Freud's (1915, 1920) reported cases of female homosexuality, the subject has received little attention in comparison to the explorations of the meanings and functions of male homosexuality. This paper looks at the multiple functions and determinants of homosexual object choice as observed in the analysis of a late adolescent girl. In this particular case, the homosexual object choice was the consequence of two core unconscious fantasies emerging in the course of the analysis. I first provide a brief overview of the literature on female homosexuality and then present the case material.
