In this issue we are pleased to offer our readers a sample of the intellectual excitement and scientific controversy generated by our pioneering colleagues who are endeavoring to integrate the psychoanalytic model of the mind with the newly available neuroscientific data concerning the brain.
Our sample is comprised of a paper by Dr. Mark Solms, a critique by Dr. Theodore Shapiro, a reply by Dr. Solms, and extraordinary clinical vignettes by Drs. Karen Kaplan-Solms and Mark Solms.
We are indebted for this material to the Psychoanalysis and Neuroscience Study Group of the New York Psychoanalytic Institute—in particular to Dr. Michael Trupp who conceived this volume and whose prefatory overview follows.
We welcome two new editors, Jerome Ennis, M.D. and John F. Crow, M.D. Dr. Ennis joins our editorial board while Dr. Crow assumes our newly created post, Online Editor.
