The selection of papers that follow were originally presented at the Candidate-to-Candidate Discussion Group during the scientific meetings of the American Psychoanalytic Association between 1996 and 1999. These papers were written during training and convey the perspective unique to this time in an analyst's development. The candor and immediacy of the papers is refreshing. We think they will be of particular interest not only to candidates but to anyone interested in psychoanalytic education. The papers cover a variety of topics—finding cases, transference and regression, the class experience, and developing an analytic attitude. While these are pressing issues during training, they also remain important beyond the training years.
