We note with sadness the loss of two members of the editorial staff, Drs. Martin H. Stein and Stephen A. Applebaum, both distinguished authors and clinicians. Dr. Stein, one of the leading psychoanalysts of the past half-century, has been previously honored in this Journal (Volume 4, Number 1, 1995) in an issue entitled “States of Mind: A Symposium in Honor of Martin H. Stein, M.D.”
Dr. Applebaum, whose career included positions at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka and at the Austen Riggs Center in Stock-bridge (where he was Erikson Scholar in Residence) unfortunately passed away just before the publication of the most recent of his six books, Evocativeness: Moving and Persuasive Interventions in Psychotherapy (Northvale, NJ: Jason Aronson, 2000).
We welcome to our editorial board Dr. Harold P. Blum, an eminent psychoanalyst renowned for his scholarship, editorial skills, and contributions to the literature. Dr. Blum's participation in our Journal is itself an expression of his generosity and enthusiasm in the sharing of his knowledge and talents. Whenever a group of analysts get together for some hard work, they will soon find Dr. Blum on their side.
We also welcome to the Board our colleagues from the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, Dr. Ernest Kafka, the noted clinician, and Dr. Edward Nersessian, co-editor of the new journal, Neuro-Psychoanalysis.
With Volumes 10 and 11 of this Journal, we (Drs. Wyman and Rittenberg) will be rounding out a decade of editing. We are pleased to announce the appointment of our successors, Drs. Robert Penzer and David Pollens, who take office immediately as editors elect, and will begin working now on the Journal issues to be published from mid-2002. We will have more to say about the transition in future issues, both in farewell to the old and welcome to the new.
Drs. Abelin-Sas and Crow have retired as International Editor and Online Editor, respectively. Their respective positions will not be
