The Association of Child Psychotherapists (Non-Medical) has been growing steadily during the last fourteen years, and this first issue of a Journal marks the present stage in its development. In two successive years a Bulletin has been printed containing the papers read at the annual Study Week-end: a more formal publication of material presented at clinical meetings throughout the year now seems appropriate.
The variety of psychological viewpoints within the membership has demanded a great deal of effort towards the understanding of differing concepts and of the terminology used in expressing these. One purpose of this journal is the exchange of ideas and methods of understanding personality and the processes at work in the treatment relationship. It is hoped that meeting points and disparities in both theory and clinical practice will continue to emerge. Some of these will be apparent in the three contributions on resistance in treatment. Whilst they are the personal statements of the authors, it will be clear that each paper is written from a particular psychological standpoint.
It is a pleasure to publish Dr. Michael Fordham's paper which he was invited to read to us. The understanding and management of transference had been the theme of the previous Study Week-end, and further thought was stimulated in discussion with Dr. Fordham from his individual way of working and from his position as an Analytical Psychologist.
