This valuable collection of papers presents a view of the expanded practices and interests of child psychotherapists and child analysts. The contributions of 28 practitioners have been grouped under the headings: 1. Patients, families and treatment approaches. 2. The psychotherapy of infancy. 3. Patients treated in adolescence. 4. Special areas of work. 5. Theory and research.
The richness and variety of years of experience and work in the field is reflected in the editors’ choice of subjects and material. The papers are highlighted and linked very helpfully by Rolene Szur. The editors pay tribute to the Child Guidance multidisciplinary approach and to the forum provided by the Journal of Child Psychotherapy, both of which have contributed to the application of psychoanalytic thinking to different sorts of work. It is generous and appropriate that the royalties from this book will go to the Child Psychotherapy Trust to ensure further training of child psychotherapists to work with children and families within the NHS.
