Endings arouse deepseated anxieties and hence this topic tends to be neglected. In this paper, I show the importance of including a seminar on the subject of ending therapy in the curriculum of training of child psychotherapists. Different kinds of endings and how they are dealt with, indications of the patient's readiness to end, transference and counter-transference issues in the ending period and post-analytic contact are discussed. The psychoanalytic description of the end of analysis as a termination is questioned and contrasted with seeing it as a loss, akin to weaning and other relinquishments throughout life.
