Somehow or other the human race is beset by institutions. They are an alien species competing with man to inhabit the globe - and who knows who will win … Our only weapon is to try to understand the beast. Our one advantage is that, … they will never understand us.
It is my contention that our Institutions arise out of the interactions between the unconscious anxieties of our patients and the largely unconscious defensive structures, both individual and collective, of the staff.
This is a welcome addition to the now well-established EFPP monograph series dealing with topics relevant to psychoanalytic psychotherapists who work in the public sector.
This volume is an attempt to ‘understand the beast’ and its largely unconscious defensive structures, using psychoanalysis as the basic tool.
