Trained as a child psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic. She works full-time in the NHS in a child and adolescent mental health service and in a linked multi-agency project. One element of the project is a A Place to Talk, which aims to reach young people who may not easily find their way to services. It offers brief counselling, a route into on-going psychotherapy, and an introduction to mainstream child or adult mental health services when appropriate.

With Mara Sidoli she edited Jungian Child Psychotherapy and contributed to Incest Fantasies and Self-Destructive Acts, as well as having papers published in British and European journals. She has worked in the health service in London, Uxbridge and High Wycombe and has a private practice in Stroud. She is on the petit comité of the International Workshop on Analytical Psychology in Childhood and Adolescence and has taught and given papers in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Berlin, San Francisco, Santa Fé, Sydney and Melbourne. With Elizabeth Urban she is Co-Consultant to the Child Analytic Training of the Society of Analytical Psychology.

Head of clinical training at the Anna Freud Centre, London. She is a visiting lecturer at the University of Padua in Italy and also works in private practice. She is Extraordinary Member of the Board of the child clinical training, Genootschap, Utrecht (Netherlands Psychoanalytic Institute) and is particularly interested in children with learning difficulties.

Trained at the Anna Freud Clinic as a child psychoanalyst. Following qualification, he spent several years in London, continuing to work at the Anna Freud Clinic, and in a variety of sessional posts elsewhere. He became Principal Child Psychotherapist in Camberwell Health Authority and Senior Clinical Tutor in the Institute of Psychiatry, Maudsley Hospital Children's Department. Later, he became Consultant Psychotherapist at the Peper Harow therapeutic community and Director of the Brandon Centre, a psychotherapy and counselling centre for young people in London. Since April 1992 he has been the Director of Young Minds, the children's mental health charity.
