This case presentation documents an extraordinary piece of clinical work. The description of the treatment makes an unusually good use of the videotaped record to describe the mother, the baby, and the therapist. What is most innovative in the article is the use of video to document the therapist’s own out-of-awareness, nonverbal process. The importance of further describing the therapists’ nonverbal communication cannot be underestimated. This is exactly the kind of information our field needs to move forward in understanding therapeutic action. The approach to mother-infant treatment described in this article can be used as a model for the field.
