These two books complement each other. Charlotte Wolff's Love between women is an interesting book but, at times, an emotional bias takes over, and it was with some relief that I discovered Corinne Hutt's lucid, level-headed account of Males & females.

Love between women is a perplexing book to read because its reference point keeps changing. In the first chapter, one is led into a lyrical and moving account of homosexual love with a quotation from Sappho's love poems. There then follows an informative account of Freud's researches on the subject of female psycho-sexual development and homosexuality. There is a brief reference to Klein's views and the behaviourist approach, but no mention of Jung's work in this context.
