I am putting together John Layard's autobiographical papers, a jumble of narratives, written and taped, a trunk full of letters, dreams, etc.—parts of which he himself called ‘History of a failure’. If any reader possesses relevant letters from him, or has recollections of him, I should be grateful if they could communicate with me. All documents will be acknowledged and speedily returned. I will willingly meet anyone who cares to share with me his, or her, memories of this unusual wounded healer.
